Placer’s swim team is, dare to say, making waves.
The team is undefeated in PVL competition; in its last competition, against Colfax on March 31, Placer’s girls compiled 148 points to Colfax’s 28, and Placer’s boys outdistanced Colfax 119-47.
Needless to say, both boys and girls teams will be well-represented at the sectional meet at Tokay High in May. In fact, Placer swimmers currently hold 13 section-best times at present.
Among the standouts at Colfax, junior Jamie Huerta put up a season-best 1:02.75 in the 100 fly, She’s already earned section times in the 500 freestyle and 200 freestyle and every relay team.
Julia Vigarino punched her ticked to Tokay with a 25.75 in the 50 freestyle against Colfax.
Freshman Caleb Tracy put up a section time of 24.96 in the 50 free and 1:04.63 in the 100 backstroke.
Then there is the freshman team, which is turning heads all over. In particular, the frosh/soph relay squad of Jaden Huerta, Lexy Ashford, Dana O’Brien and Cassidy McKee has placed in the 200 free relay, the 200 medley relay and the 400 medley relay. Jaden Huerta’s 25.44 in the 50 free and 2:18 in the 200 IM are among the section’s best, as are O’Brien’s 25.75 in the 50 free and 58.68 in the 100 free and Ashford’s 5:51 in the 500 free and 2;23 in the 200 IM.
“This is a wonderful bonded team that has every intention of taking the league title,” coach Lizbeth Huerta said in an email.
Earlier in March, Placer posted dominating wins over Foothill and Center.
