It took a 16-3 rally in the fourth game, but Placer High’s volleyball team closed out a perfect Pioneer Valley League campaign by ousting rival Colfax 3-1 Thursday in Earl Crabbe Gym.
The Hillmen won 25-22 in the first game, but fell behind 19-24 in the second. With a loud home crowd roaring behind them, Placer’s girls won seven elimination points to take a 28-26 victory.
Colfax avoided the same collapse in a 25-19 third-set win and took a 5-3 lead to open the fourth, but Placer rallied back to lead 19-8 before finishing a 25-17 victory.
“What we didn’t do this entire night was panic,” Placer coach Jennifer Wright said. “It was crazy for them to be so composed and just solid.
“I’m super proud of them. They just kept playing and I didn’t have to do much.”
The Hillmen got 12 kills from Kapri Pelle while Julia Camillucci had seven. Madi Mohar and Alex Monroe added six kills apiece. Annie Schwab and Lexi Huer combined for 33 assists. Alyssa Orteza passed out 17 assists.

“(Placer) was going for an undefeated season, so we didn’t have much to lose going into it,” Colfax coach Haley Biles said. “Now we are just preparing for the playoffs, waiting for the brackets to come out tomorrow and we will go from there.”
Both Colfax (6-4) and Placer (10-0) will enter the Sac-Joaquin Section postseason next week. Brackets and matchups for the Oct. 31 first round will be released today on cifsjs.org.
