Jordan Perlow hit two three-pointers late in the fourth, and Jeremy Lillis had a monster dunk at the start of the quarter as Placerâs boys basketball team pulled away from host Lincoln, 71-58, on Friday night.
Lillis finished with 28 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Hillmen (21-3, 6-1 Pioneer Valley League), who outscored the hosts 20-10 in the last quarter after being up by just three going into the frame.
âIt was a great atmosphere,â Placer coach Mark Lee said. âThey made a great run at us, cut the lead to one. I was really pleased with the way my team came back and fought back in the fourth quarter.â
It didnât appear the game would be so close as the Hillmen raced out to a 23-12 lead after one. But the Fighting Zebras kept chipping away, closing the gap to 34-29 at the break and 51-48 after three.
Then, off an out-of-bounds play to open the fourth, Lillis got his dunk â âThat got the place going,â Lee said â and Placer stepped up its intensity.
âWe picked up our defense and got real aggressive on the offensive end,â Lee said.
Jordan Ferreira had another strong all-around game with 15 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals. Brandon Ikeda had 11 points and four steals, and Kai Huntsberry finished with 10 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals.
Gabe Gillespie led the Fighting Zebras (10-14, 2-5 PVL) with 14 points, including four three-pointers in the second quarter. Sky Williams scored 12, Justus Horse 11 and Preston Summerhays 10.
Placer will play host to Foothill on Wednesday. The Mustangs upset the Hillmen on Jan. 19, ending Placerâs 20-game PVL winning streak. Placer is tied with Center for 1st place in the PVL with 6-1 records while Foothill sits in 2nd with a 5-2 mark.
