The Hillmen played tough and battled hard against Berkeley thoughout the game but ust couldn’t do enough to get the win. Placer trailed by 3 after the first quarter and by 7 at the half, but came out aggressive to start the second half. Placer had 3 straight steals and a stop but came up empty with point blank misses at the offensive end. Placer trailed the Yellowjackets by 10 after the 3rd but battled back to tie it on a 3 point play by Max Petrenko with 5:45 to play. Placer’s full court pressure bothered Berekley and fueled the Hillmen comeback. Placer failed to capitilize on Yellowjacket turnovers and then Berkeley went on a run of its own with back to back 3 pointers by Jerry Rio and a 3 point play by Ronnie Golden stretched the lead to 10 with 3:30 to play.The Hillmen made another run and came to within 3 on a three pointer by Jackson Lee with just over 2 minutes to play but it was not enough. Hillmen trailed by 3 wth :48 to play but an offensive rebound with :12 to play and a Hillmen foul with :3.2 sec to play and Golden made 1 of 2 for the win. Placer was led by Petrenko with 26 points and 11 boards. Jackson Lee and Myles Meyer both chipped in 15. Tayven Winans had a nice game with 8 points and 5 steals. Caden Lichau contributed 8 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assist for the Hillmen. Placer had a fantastic night from the FT line as they went 29 for 35 from the charity stripe. Hillmen face Elk Grove in the consolation bracket tomorrow at 3:00.
